Legacy Staff,

Over the past few days, we have been actively seeking clarification from the State of Nevada regarding funding during school closures. While we did not receive specific guidance related to hourly employees, we did learn the following:

  • Legacy will continue to receive full funding from the state during school closures.

  • Legacy will not be required to extend the school year but will be required to provide students with remote learning opportunities during school closures.

Given this information, and in an effort to value all employees, we are pleased to share that Legacy has made the decision to pay non-exempt (hourly) employees their normal pay, based on regularly scheduled hours, for the duration of the closure.

To be clear, this means that hourly employees:

  • Will receive pay through Friday, April 3.

  • Will NOT be paid during the planned Spring Break week of April 6-10 since hourly employees were not scheduled to work during this time.

  • Will be paid for planned work beyond April 10, should schools continue to be closed.

  • Will be asked to be on-call or complete tasks remotely during the school closure. These tasks may not be within current job duties.

  • May be asked to come to the school in small groups for short periods of time to assist with tasks on site.

  • Will NOT be required to take paid time off or unpaid leave during school closures, as long as you are willing and able to work. However, paid time off and unpaid leave will still be available for hourly employees who choose not to work during this time.

Exempt employees (salaried) will continue to be paid as normal throughout the closure.

The health and safety of our entire Legacy school community is our top priority, and we want to ensure our students, families, and employees have all of the resources they need to stay healthy or seek medical care if needed. Your personal welfare is important to us and those who depend on you, which is why we encourage you to continue to stay home as much as possible at this time.

If you or someone you have been in immediate contact with show symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough and shortness of breath, or if you or someone close to you has been tested for COVID-19 and may or may not have the results, we ask that you report this status to Human Resources at hr@vertexeducation.com. Our HR benefits team will be in touch with you immediately and will assist in the appropriate employment and regulatory guidance.

Additionally, we want you to be supported during this time of uncertainty. We encourage you to access the resources available through SupportLinc, our Employee Assistance Program (EAP). These services include emotional health support, financial services and wellness resources. Use code “legacy” to access the online resources, or call 1-888-881-5462 for immediate assistance.

Thank you so much for your patience and continued support during this time.

Sincerely,

Eve Breier, Ed.D.
Deputy Superintendent, Legacy Traditional Schools – Nevada
