Legacy employees,
Yesterday, Governor Doug Ducey announced two decisions that have an impact on Legacy and the entire state of Arizona:
- School closures will extend through the end of the year.
- Arizonans have been asked to “Stay home, Stay healthy, Stay connected” to slow the spread of COVID-19 starting today, March 31 through at least April 30.
We know you have questions on how these decisions affect your role as a Legacy employee, and we want to provide you with additional clarification.
Teachers
Teachers are strongly encouraged to work from home. We know that some of you prefer to come to campus to complete your work; however, we are asking that you make every effort to stay home during this time.
If you are unable to work from home, please contact your principal. Additionally, be sure to adhere to physical distancing when on campus.
Hourly Employees
Principals will be creating rotation schedules for hourly employees to ensure those who are willing and able to work are spending as close to the same amount of time as possible on campus each week.
Furthermore, hourly employees who are currently on-call are expected to spend a minimum of 50% of their regular hours completing professional development training at home. For example, if you typically work 20 hours per week at your campus, you are expected to complete a minimum of 10 hours of professional development training at home. Your principal will provide you with a list of trainings to complete.
Legacy Kids Care
On March 23, Governor Ducey issued an executive order identifying public schools as an essential service. As a public charter school, Legacy is obligated to continue to provide services for our students through the end of the school year, including remote learning opportunities, meals for students and childcare services.
With this in mind, we will continue to offer Legacy Kids Care (LKC) for our Legacy families, but with modifications:
- We have already limited registration to no more than 36 students per campus, with no more than nine students to one LKC worker, respecting the guidance from the CDC to have gatherings no larger than 10.
- To ensure our Legacy families who are first responders, healthcare workers and perform other essential job functions have access to childcare, we will be asking parents who register for LKC to show identification that they are an essential service provider. Children of Legacy employees working on campus are still allowed to register for LKC.
Additionally, we are working to have gloves available next week and masks available in two weeks for all employees who are on campus to use in the normal course of their duties.
Finally, we encourage you all to be diligent about practicing physical distancing of at least six feet. And, to echo Governor Ducey, please stay healthy and safe, and be sure to stay connected with not only your coworkers, but also your friends and family.
Sincerely,

Nicole Kirkley
Superintendent
