Legacy faculty and staff,

Earlier today, we shared Governor Doug Ducey and Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman’s announcement that Arizona schools will be closed through the end of the school year.

With the closing of schools in Arizona through the end of the school year, we want you to feel informed as we move forward with our remote learning plans.

First, we want to express our appreciation and gratitude for each of you for supporting our schools, students and families during this time. You have shown immense resilience and commitment to our school communities and we are humbled by the effort you are putting in to ensure Legacy students continue to receive a high level of instruction, even during school closures. Thank you for demonstrating Legacy spirit, positivity and agility!

Although our physical schools will be closed the rest of the school year, we will continue to push forward with providing remote learning opportunities for students. Administrator, teacher and staff expectations have not changed. Our focus remains on completing the school year following the plan we have in place. We will continue to develop video instruction, learning packets and supplemental materials, while leveraging technology including Google Classroom and Google Meets.

Furthermore, please refer to the information below for compensation details for salaried and hourly employees.

Salaried employees who are willing and able to work will continue to receive their full salary during the school closures.

Hourly employees who are willing and able to work will continue to receive their normal pay, based on regularly scheduled hours.

  • Hourly employees will be asked to be on-call or complete tasks and professional development opportunities remotely during the school closure. These tasks may not be within current job duties.
  • Although schools are closed, hourly employees may be asked to come to the school to assist with tasks on site as deemed necessary by their administration.
  • Hourly employees will not be required to take paid time off or unpaid leave as long as you are willing and able to work. However, paid time off and unpaid leave will still be available for hourly employees who choose not to work during this time.

Important note for hourly employees: if you decline assigned work, you will be placed into an unpaid status.

If you have any questions about your expectations, please contact your principal directly.

Finally, we have learned a lot from our first week of remote learning, and we are already identifying ways to improve videos, learning packets and communication. As we refine our approach, we will be sure to provide you updates. You can also review all past employee communications and FAQs at https://devemp.ltsdev.org/covid-19/.

Thank you again for your ongoing commitment.

Sincerely,
