Legacy faculty and staff,
As you may be aware, all Legacy Traditional Schools in Arizona will be closed effective Monday, March 16, 2020. We anticipate instruction will resume Monday, March 30, 2020.
We are in the process of defining what the coming weeks will look like for supporting ongoing education for our students, and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we determine next steps following the closure of all Legacy Traditional Schools.
For schools on Spring Break this week, we ask that all teachers and staff report to work on Monday, March 23 for an all staff meeting at 8 a.m via google hangouts from your classroom. During this meeting, you will receive further direction on work schedules and preparing educational materials for our students during the closure. You are welcome to wear casual dress i.e. jeans.
Please take a moment to read through the FAQs below for additional information about working during the school closures. If you have any questions, please reach out to your principal or share them with hr@vertexeducation.com.
Thank you for your ongoing support during this time. We have a great team at Legacy and I am confident that we will get through this together.
Sincerely,

Nicole Kirkley
Superintendent

FAQs for Legacy Employees
Who is expected to be on campus during the closure?
All principals, assistant principals and instructional coaches, as well as community education site coordinators and student support coaches, are expected to be on campus during the closure, with the exception of Spring Break week(s).
Will exempt (salaried) employees still receive pay during the closure?
Legacy will continue to pay full salary to exempt employees (salaried) who are ready, willing and able to work when Legacy is closed for emergency or operating requirements.
Teachers will have the option of working on campus or remotely, as determined by their principal. Teachers and other salaried employees should follow the guidance of their principal for their work during the closure and are expected to be available to work during their normal hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
If it is determined that you may work remotely, please ensure you take home all of your teacher’s editions and required teaching materials.
Exempt employees will also have the option of taking paid time off.
Will non-exempt (hourly) employees still receive pay during the closure?
Legacy is only required to pay non-exempt employees (hourly) for hours worked. However, we will do our best to continue to facilitate work-related tasks when Legacy is closed for emergency or operating requirements. Additionally, non-exempt employees may be entitled to unemployment compensation or other state benefits during closures or other periods away from work required by COVID-19.
What are the options available for hourly employees during the closure?
Hourly employees will have three options available to them during the closure period.
- Unpaid leave: Hourly employees may request unpaid leave during the closure period. Choosing this option will give employees the flexibility to take time away from work while ensuring their position will be available in the future when schools reopen.
- Paid time off: Hourly employees may also request to take paid time off using the normal channels.
- Work: Hourly employees will also be offered the opportunity to remain at work during the closure period. Hourly employees who choose to work may be asked to complete work outside normal duties, such as cleaning the campus, preparing materials for students, or completing other administrative work, to be assigned by your campus leadership.
Working remotely is not an option for hourly employees.
What if an employee is showing symptoms of COVID-19 at work?
If you are showing symptoms of respiratory illness, including fever, cough and shortness of breath, we ask that you stay home. Employees who arrive to work with these symptoms may be asked to go home. Please consult with Human Resources before taking any action.
What resources are available for Legacy employees?
If you are not showing symptoms of COVID-19, please refrain from using medical resources that are not necessary.BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) and Cigna are now offering extended support for COVID-19 services and care. This includes full coverage for medically-necessary diagnostic tests related to COVID-19. Additionally, BCBS and Cigna have eliminated the 30-day restriction to fill prescriptions, and will increase the window to allow for 90-day supplies.
Additional resources are also available through MHN, Legacy’s employee assistance program (EAP). Use code legacyeap.

If you start exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough and shortness of breath, please notify your supervisor and Human Resources immediately.

Will paid leave be available for employees showing symptoms of COVID-19?
Legacy will continue to facilitate our current leave policies for medical reasons. There is a possibility that the government may pass regulations to extend additional paid leave to employees diagnosed with COVID-19 or if someone is required to care for a family member who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. In the event of modified regulations, Legacy would apply such modifications to employees based on the criteria established, which could include retroactive application
