Session Descriptions

PowerSchool - Jason Ostermeier

The session will cover creating a Stored Selection in PowerSchool, and using that Stored Selection to review the students you are working with directly. Data to review will be Attendance, Grades, and Health from the student pages. Also, we will be covering how to review Discipline and AZMerit data from reports, using your Stored Selection. If time allows, will have Q&A covering PowerSchool, at the end of the session.

MAPS - Brittany Ayo

Want to better understand your student? Use NWEA MAP data to help discern a student’s strengths and areas of concentration. MAP data provides normative data needed to help drive daily instruction, identify intervention and create IEP goals focused on individualized skills related to reading and math. These norms help you see if students are growing at an expected pace, regardless of where a student started.

Struggling Readers - Stephanie Martinez

Get some tips and tricks of how to support struggling readers. This will mostly focus on students who struggle with decoding and early fluency and comprehension.

Medical Health Plans… Do we do those? - Julie Gonzalez

Have you ever wondered what the differences/ similarities are between a medical health plan, 504 and IEP? If so, this session is for you! This session will focus on the different types of medical health plans, when they are developed and how they are implemented.

Law & Order: E.S.S. - Amanda Buda

Can you predict the outcome of an episode of The Good Wife or Suits before anyone else? Are you better than Olivia Pope at knowing when something just isn’t right? If so, than this session is right for you! Learn about real cases involving alleged violations of the IDEA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and find out if you are destined to be the next Judge Judy when you get to see if you agree with the court’s decisions!

How did that go? - Jesse Crandall

Have you ever left a special education meeting wondering “how did that go?” If you have, this presentation is for you! This presentation will cover the foundational components and needed steps in order to prepare and carry out a collaborative special education meeting.

What is the Impact? - Brad Turnbow

This presentation will strengthen evaluators skills on writing the educational implications of suspected disability. Emphasis will be placed on reading and math implications.

  • Special Education Teachers will have a better understanding of the students needs and be more effective at tailoring an IEP to the students.
  • School Psychologists / SLP’s will be able to identify and compile existing information to better explain the educational implications.
  • School Psychologists / SLP’s will feel more confident walking into manifestation meeting being able to adequately describe the educational implications (this takes the guess work out of what could be general statements, but truly individualizing this section).

A guide for special educators on the set up, design and delivery of effective instruction in the special education classroom.

Understanding data - Mariah Western

Join us as we explore how to analyze, interpret and understand data. We will discuss how and when to collect data, and examine existing sources of data. Next, we will practice pulling pertinent information from the data, and use the information to drive decision making for students.
